About the NTNU Art Museum

National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) is a cradle of the art development in Taiwan. Throughout its 100-year history, NTNU has cultivated countless talents in art creation, application, design, criticism, history, education, and administration, enriching the brilliant and diverse contemporary arts of Taiwan.

The NTNU Art Museum inherits the rich cultural assets of Taiwan, focuses on the development of the contemporary arts in Taiwan, and explores the diverse arts and humanities careers of the faculty and students of NTNU in society and their deep-rooted talent to rediscover and reinitiate the cultural impact of NTNU.

The NTNU Art Museum is a cultural and learning resource for the faculty and students of NTNU, their respective cities and countries, and all people in the world. It shall drive the participation of and dialogues between people of different generations, disciplines, ethnicities, and professions. Through thought-provoking exhibitions and artistic experience, the NTNU Art Museum encourages critical thinking and inspires curiosity, creativity, and imaginations across disciplines, thereby promoting respect for different cultures and perspectives.

NTNU Art Museum Collections

The NTNU Art Museum collects the works left in school by the faculty and students of NTNU and donated by professors since 1947, particularly student works. These works are extremely diverse in styles, expressions, and concepts. The tension of these artistic creations facilitated under the mutual influence between professors’ backgrounds, international schools of art, and the trend of Taiwanization is notable. These collections provide an insight into the history of the evolution of the Taiwanese art as well as the roles and importance of NTNU in it.

Currently, the NTNU Art Museum has collected over 3,000 works, including more than 680 pieces of ink painting, 650 pieces of oil painting, 620 prints, 510 pieces of watercolor painting, 130 pieces of calligraphy, and 230 pieces of applied art. Other kinds of works, such as sketches, composite media, and sculptures, are also included.

The NTNU Art Museum is the art museum for all people, dedicated to promoting the participation in arts by community and city residents and reaching out to the international audience via the Internet, bridging the art exchange and education across all generations and ethnic groups.
