The National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) Art Museum\u2019s immersive venue, The Stage of Light<\/strong>, promotes the integration of technology and immersive content production by both students and faculty. Supported by the Ministry of Education and organized by NTNU, the exhibition is part of the Foresight Display Technology Introduction into Establishment of Art Venue and Promotion Program. It showcases the outcomes of this initiative, featuring a wide range of narrative scenarios from ritual blessings to tunnel accidents and themes of life and death, reflecting the diverse interests of the student and faculty creators. Throughout the creation process, these students and faculty creators explored how sensory immersion, physical movement, and interactive technologies could be used to effectively engage audiences, making them an integral part of the work itself.<\/p>

The term \u201cfeat.,\u201d short for \u201cfeaturing,\u201d is commonly used in music and entertainment to indicate collaborations between artists. Here, this term is adapted to emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of this immersive environment. Whether it is art \u201cfeat.\u201d technology or technology \u201cfeat.\u201d art, the core of this incubation process involves fostering collaboration and sparking creativity through interdisciplinary co-creation.<\/p>

\u00a0One highlight of this series, Rice Dragon 360, brings together students and faculty from the Department of Music, Graduate Institute of Performing Arts, and Department of Design. The performance, which features real-time audiovisual interactions, will premiere on the evening of November 2. In addition, several interactive pieces will be exhibited in The Stage of Light at the NTNU Art Museum during the exhibition, including Rice Dragon 360, The Underground Haven, and Seek. These works allow audiences to alter narrative scenarios through body-motion interaction and project themselves as characters in the presented stories\u2014feat. the audience!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Rice Dragon 360<\/strong>

The \u201cRice Dragon 360\u201d production, which is supported by the Ministry of Education, brings together the Department of Design, the Department of Music, and the Graduate Institute of Performing Arts from NTNU. It implements interdisciplinary teaching and co-creation, exploring the multiple possibilities of immersive experiences and infusing contemporary interpretations into traditional culture.
Inspired by the traditional Hakka ritual for offering blessings, which uses white rice to represent the dragon deity, the \u201cRice Dragon 360\u201d transforms the rice into dynamic digital particles. By integrating audiovisual and interactive motion technologies, it allows audiences to experience the Rice Dragon in a 360-degree projected space through naked-eye 3D displays, guiding the dragon\u2019s movements with their hands.
<\/span>On November 2, a special performance will take place. Performers, holding dragon pearls, will guide the dragon in flight. Set against two contrasting soundscapes, the performance features a dynamic interplay of pursuit and conflict between the performers and the dragon. It explores the tension between the virtual and the real, as well as the interaction between the dragon and the human.<\/span><\/p>

If there were an opportunity to meet again, it would undoubtedly be the most beautiful conclusion.

The Underground Haven<\/b>

\u201cThe Underground Haven\u201d is based on an engineering accident that occurred during the Matsu war zone administration period in the 1960s. Through interdisciplinary technological and artistic methods, it invites the audience to collectively reconstruct the remnants of war, opening a space for post-war dialogue and reflection. This creation includes an interactive VR animation titled \u201cThe Underground Haven,\u201d” as well as immersive theater and interactive projection content that extends its narrative, bringing to life the 36-year martial law period . The VR animation narrates a surreal and fantastical journey of a father serving in the National Army, who fulfills his final wish with his son. Through physical performance, this immersive theater guides the audience through time, revisiting poignant historical scars and entering a world where reality and illusion converge. The immersive interactive projection employs edge-blending, motion capture, and generative AI technologies to recreate tunnel scenes, further enriching the storytelling experience. Ultimately, history requires connection, not mere inheritance. \u201cThe Underground Haven\u201d seeks to foster a two-way interaction between the audience and the narrative, providing the audience with an opportunity to understand and feel the past, create possibilities beyond suffering, and reflect on the future we wish to build.

Hua-Hsiang CHEN graduated from the Master\u2019s Program of Interaction Design at National Taipei University of Technology and the Department of Motion Picture at National Taiwan University of Arts. He focuses on VR filmmaking and interactive design. His first VR work, The Underground Haven, was featured at the Tech-Art in Formosa exhibition at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and at the MEET Digital Culture Center in Italy.<\/p>

Kuan-Wei CHEN<\/b>
Kuan-Wei CHEN is currently a PhD candidate in the Doctoral Program in Design at National Taipei University of Technology and the leader of the Illustion Reality Project (dance troupe). His work focuses on the integration of technology and dance. His performances have been featured at prominent venues such as the LoudSoulMusic & Dance Festival in Serbia, Tua-Tiu-Tiann International Festival of Arts, the Taipei Performing Arts Center, and the Taichung Chung Shan Hall.
Chun-Yu WEI<\/b>
Chun-Yu WEI graduated from the Graduate Institute of Performing Arts at National Taiwan Normal University. He has a deep interest in combining visual and auditory elements to develop multimedia performing arts and is dedicated to producing innovative multimedia experiences. The NTNU Art Museum\u2019s Stage of Light<\/em> <\/strong>is dedicated to experimenting with the digital transformation of art collections, accelerating the fusion of art and technology through immersive exhibition spaces. It is a collaborative effort involving the NTNU College of Industry Academia Innovation, Art Museum, College of Technology and Engineering, and College of Arts.
