Inheritance and Paragon—NTNU Alumni Art  Exhibition in Celebration of the Hundredth Anniversary

National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) has provided modern art education since its founding as Taihoku High School (1922–1946). In 1946, the National Government of the Republic of China established Taiwan Provincial Teachers College (1946–1955), which shared its campus and facilities with Taipei High School, and founded its Crafts and Drawing Department. In 1949, the department was reformed into the Department of Arts, and in 1967, its status was promoted to become the NTNU Department of Fine Arts. A retrospect of NTNU’s history indicates that it could be considered Taiwan’s origin of higher education in arts.

This year (2022) marks NTNU’s Centennial Celebration. A hundred alumni have been invited to celebrate with us by presenting a hundred art pieces to illustrate their alma mater’s centennial elegance. The alumni featured in this exhibition include not only professional artists but also art teachers who inspire the younger generation within the education system, professors and scholars working in domestic and foreign universities, supervisors in relevant public and private institutions, and art administration and management personnel who serve in museums and galleries.  While contributing to various fields through their expertise, NTNU alumni do not forsake their aspiration and passion for creation. Their each step in the art industry deepens the cultural influence NTNU.

In the 1970s, the international situation was turbulent, and the rise of local awareness led to local arts movements. Amid changes in the cultural environment, an era of division of labor based on specialization arrived.
